WHO: Processed Meats Can Cause Cancer
Processed meats such as hot dogs, sausage or bacon can lead to cancer, according to the World Health Organization.
A study released by the organization’s cancer research unit classifies processed meat as “carcinogenic to humans” and linked it to colon cancer.
Processed meat is grouped on the same list with smoking and asbestos for cancer risks, however the risk is small.
The report stated that eating less than two slices of bacon a day increases the chances of colon cancer by 18 percent.
Red meat has also been been linked to colon, pancreatic and prostate cancer.
Experts examined around 800 studies from different countries investigating links between the consumption of red or processed meat and cancer.
The cancer research unit recommends limiting the amount of meat in your diet.
Meanwhile, the meat industry is fighting back, calling the report biased and misleading.
