Ely Police Officer Charged with Criminal Sexual Conduct
A grand jury has returned an indictment against an Ely Police Officer, charging him with one count of third degree Criminal Sexual Conduct.
The indictment alleges that 37-year-old Jason Carlson, a Sergeant on the Ely Police Department, engaged in sexual conduct with a girl who was at least 16 but less than 18 years old, while he was in a position of authority over her.
The incident allegedly happened in December of 2014.
A grand jury was convened in the case, and returned an indictment against Carlson on October 14, which remained sealed until Friday.
Carlson appeared in St. Louis County Court in Virginia Friday morning.
Bail was set at $15,000.
Carlson was ordered to supervised release.
He is expected to be back in court on December 21.
Carlson is a patrol Sergeant and a 10-year veteran of the Ely Police Department.
