Mayor Don Ness declared Monday as Color the World Orange day to raise awareness about what advocates call a poorly understood condition.

Nicole Chatterson’s mother-in-law, Theresa Rosendahl, suffers from complex regional pain syndrome also known as reflect sympathetic dystrophy.

It’s a form of chronic pain that usually affects an arm or leg after an injury, surgery, stroke or heart attack.

“It’s hard to go on day after day after day because i might get up and start throwing up and the medicine doesn’t really do the job after so many years,” said Rosendahl.

“We really just want to see progress forward moving forward and hopefully having research done to make it so it’s not so reliant on pain medications and other meds to keep things going for the patients,” said Chatterson.

The condition is most common in people ages 20-35.

There is no cure.
