Minnesota Hunters Bag 68,401 Deer Opening Weekend

Minnesota hunters bagged 68,401 deer during the first three days of firearms deer season. 

Hunters registered more deer this year than last, with the numbers up 6.3 percent compared to 2014. 

Buck harvest during this year’s opener was also up 8.5 percent compared to this time last year. 

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is expecting the deer harvest to be between 140,000 to 155,000 deer. 

The 2014 total harvest was just over 139,000.

For most of the state, deer season runs through November 15.  

Additional deer will be harvested during the northern rifle zone, which runs through Sunday, November 22. 

The late southeastern season runs Saturday, November 21 through November 29, and the muzzleloader season kicks off November 28 and runs through December 13.
