Traffic Advisory: Christmas City of the North Parade

Thousands of people will gather in downtown Duluth this Friday for the Christmas City of the North Parade.

The parade kicks off November 20 at 6:30 p.m. and will bring with it a lot of traffic. 

Bundle up your family to head out, but know the best ways to get there. 

The parade utilizes 13 blocks of Superior Street, from 9th Avenue East to 4th Avenue. 

Parade units will begin lining up at 4:00 p.m. along London Road between 10th Avenue East and 14th Avenue East, and the upper side of London Road from 14th Avenue East to 17th Avenue East.  

The parade will then move up to 9th Avenue East to start, continuing west on Superior Street to 4th Avenue West before dispersing. 

ROAD CLOSURES

London Road will close to  traffic at 4:00 p.m. from 10th Avenue East to 14th Avenue East, including 12th and 13th Avenue East. 

Superior Street and Michigan Street will close to traffic at 5:45, however, vehicles will be allowed to exit Michigan Street lots and ramps, but will be directed down to the 5th Avenue West off ramp. 

NO PARKING

-No parking after 10 a.m. at the five meters in front of Pickwick. 

-No parking after 12 p.m. at the meters on the upper side of Fitgers Inn

-No parking after 3 p.m. on both side of London Road from 10th Avenue East to 13th Avenue East

-London Road upper side from 14th Avenue East to 17th Avenue Esat. 

-12th and 13th Avenue East from London Road to Superior Street. 

-Jefferson Street from 13th to 14th Avenue East

-Rose Garden Parking lot

-No parking after 4 p.m. on Michigan Street from 5th Avenue East to 4th Avenue West. 

-No parking after 5 p.m. on Superior Street from 10th Avenue East to East bound runs. 

DTA

Buses will use 1st Street for westbound runs and 2nd Street for East bound runs. 

DETOURS

-Superior Street east bound traffic will be detoured up to 2nd Street at 6th Avenue West to continue eastbound. 

-Westbound traffic will be sent up 14th Avenue East from London Road and up 10th Avenue East from Superior Street to continue west bound on 1st street

-Lake Avenue will be blocked off at 1st street and at the freeway ramps on the Lake Avenue Viaduct. 

-Access to Canal Park, Park Point, and the DECC will be rerouted to 5th Avenue West to the connector to Railroad Street, and from the freeway exits onto 5th Avenue West and South Lake Avenue.

ST LUKE’S HOSPITAL ACCESS

If coming from the EAST: Take 1st Street directly to the Hospital. Use either the parking ramps on the lower side of 1st Street between 10th to 12th Avenue East, or the emergency room entrance on the upper side of 1st Street between 10th and 9th Avenue East

If coming from the EAST: Take 1st Street directly to the Hospital. Use either the parking ramps on the lower side of 1st Street between 10th to 12th Avenue East, or the emergency room entrance on the upper side of 1st Street between 10th and 9th Avenue East

Free parking is being offered starting at 5 p.m. in the following ramps: 

Shoppers Auto Park—18 N. 2nd Ave West

Fourth Avenue Auto Park—402 W. Michigan Street

US Bank Ramp—230 W. Michigan Street

Tech Village Ramp—10 E. First Street

1st and 1st Lot– 123 East First Street

Medical District Ramp—302 E. First Street

Fitger’s at 600 E. Superior Street

Phoenix Parking Lot at 8 N. 4th Ave West

St. Luke’s Hospital Ramp 1020 East First Street

St. Luke’s Employee Parking Lot at 119 N. 12th Avenue East

Traffic should return to normal by 8:30 Friday night. 

If you are driving in this area, you are urged to watch for pedestrians and use caution in the area of the event.
