Social Justice Protest Borrows Name, Coincides with Christmas Parade

Community organizers have borrowed the name and the time slot of Duluth’s Christmas parade for a social justice protest.

Several community action groups including Politicsoffmybody, Duluth & Superior Save the Kids, the Superior African Heritage Community, and Amnesty International are collaborating to put the event on.

The protest is being called the Justice City of the North Action.

Organizers say the event will be non-obstructive, and peaceful.

Marcus White, of Amnesty International said Thursday, the group just wants to get their message out, and the number people present at the parade gives them the best opportunity to reach a large audience.

The event will kick off with a #Justice4Jamar Vigil and Rally at 5 p.m. and will continue until 8 p.m.

Organizer currently expect more than 100 people to be on hand and invite anyone who wants to hear their message to join them.

The Duluth Police Department declined to be interviewed for this story.
