Minneapolis-Bound Flight Returns to Florida after Possible Bomb Threat
A Minneapolis-bound flight returned to Fort Lauderdale Thursday night after police say a passenger possibly made a bomb threat.
Spirit Flight 595 was carrying 92 passengers when it took off around 10 Thursday night from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
The airline says the plane returned to the gate after about 15 minutes in the air because of a “security issue” on board.
Broward County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion says the flight was brought back after a passenger was overheard “possibly making mention of a bomb.”
Passengers disembarked the plane while it was swept for explosives.
Officials say no explosives were found on board, however the FBI interviewed two men along with five other passengers and flight attendants in connection to the incident.
According to Concepcion, the FBI deemed there was no threat and the incident was a “misunderstanding”.
A statement from Spirit Airlines says the crew followed all safety protocols.
