Those Killed in Transphobic Violence Remembered

Today marks the 16th annual Transgender Day of Remembrance. It’s a day to memorialize trans men and women who have lost their lives to transphobic violence.

The University of Wisconsin Superior had an Information table where students could learn about the violence that transgender people face. The table also had 75 cards with the names of trans men and women who were killed this year.

According to the 2014 Hate Crime Statistics released by the FBI this past week, hate crimes that target people due to their gender identity almost tripled from the previous years
