Alaska Deer Hunter Shot, Killed During Opening Weekend in Wisconsin

An Alaska man died hunting in Wisconsin after his hunting companion accidentally shot him.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says the 39-year-old man was deer hunting in Columbia County on Sunday with a 35-year-old Wisconsin woman.

The man apparently handed a loaded rifle up to the woman while she was in a tree stand.

The woman had mittens on and grasped the gun around the trigger.

The gun discharged and the man was hit with a bullet just below the armpit.

The DNR says no other fatalities involving weapons were reported since the nine-day deer gun season began on Saturday.

The Green Lake County Sheriff’s Department reported a hunter died of an apparent heart attack while dragging a deer to his car on Saturday.
