One Dead in Hayward Shooting; Suspect Turns Himself In

Police say one person is dead and a suspect has turned himself in following a shooting in Hayward. 

The Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office along with LCO Tribal Police responded to reports of a gunshot victim on Gurno Lake Road in the Township of Hayward around 11 Wednesday morning. 

The victim, an adult male, died on scene from an apparent gunshot wound. 

Just minutes later, an adult male turned himself in to the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office in connection to the shooting.   Police say he is in custody. 

The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family. 

The name of the suspect is not being released at this time. 

The incident remains under investigation by the LCO Tribal Police Department, Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin Department of Justice/Division of Criminal Investigation.
