Minnesota Salvation Army Celebrates $500,000 Check

The Salvation Army says that a couple dropped a $500,000 check into a red kettle outside of a Cub Foods in suburban Minneapolis on Saturday.

A spokeswoman for the Salvation Army says it’s the biggest check ever received in the Minneapolis area, and likely the biggest ever in Minnesota and North Dakota.

Officials say the couple who donated the check has a history of donations and prefers to remain anonymous.

The couple alerted Salvation Army officials that the check was coming and asked them to open the kettle and remove the check before volunteers could see their names.

The Salvation Army called it “an astonishing gift” and it came at the perfect time, as the division was running about a half-million dollars behind compared to this time last year.
