Brooklyn Park Man Charged with Assaulting Police Officer

Prosecutors have charged a Brooklyn Park man with assault for allegedly beating a police officer over the weekend.

25-year-old Lance Carr is charged with first degree assault.

According to the criminal complaint,  a Brooklyn Park Police Officer responded to some town homes early Sunday on complaints of loud noises coming from a parked car.

When the officer arrived, he found Carr in the vehicle, and learned the man had a warrant out for his arrest.

The complaint says the officer had Carr step out of the vehicle, when he suddenly turned around a threw a punch.

The punch missed the officer, but Carr grabbed him and they both fell to the ground.

The officer’s gun discharged, but no one was hit.

Carr is expected to make his first court appearance Wednesday.
