Councilors Vote For Liquor Ban Repeal

Duluth City Council voted Monday to request Minnesota State Legislators repeal a state liquor ban for Lakeside from 1891.

The law currently states that the neighborhoods of Lakeside and Lester Park must remain dry and prevents businesses from serving alcoholic beverages to residents.

Many Lakeside residents feel it’s time to modernize the neighborhoods and are looking forward to the prospects of the new businesses the changes could bring to the Lakeside area.

The Duluth City Council held a referendum on Nov. 3 to put feelers out to see if residents had any interest in trying to get rid of the restrictions.   The voters overwhelmingly approved the removal of the ban.
