Eveleth Man Arrested in Pine County Church Burglary

A 29-year-old Eveleth man is behind bars after allegedly being involved in a burglary at a church in Hinckley over the weekend.

The Pine County Sheriff’s Office was called out around 6:30 Saturday morning to the Trinity Episcopal Church on reports of a burglary in progress.

A witness reported seeing lights on inside of the church and someone moving around in the building.

Deputies arrived and set up a perimeter around the church.

Police say the male suspect was seen looking out a window at deputies, then ducking out of sight.

The man was arrested after attempting to flee out a lower level window on the building’s east side.

Police checked the church and found no one else inside.

Authorities say the building was ransacked and items, including a stained glass window, were broken.

A vehicle associated with the suspect was found near the scene.

The man is in custody pending formal charges.
