Winter Solstice Celebrated in Two Harbors
Shortest Day, Longest Night
It’s official, every day between now and June 21, 2016 will be longer than the previous day. And in Two Harbors Monday, it was a celebration.
The Winter Solstice, which is the shortest day and longest night in the Northern Hemisphere, marks the official beginning of the calendar winter, and the sun’s lowest point on horizon.
A winter solstice party as held on the beach at Superior Shores Resort & Conference Center in Two Harbors Monday.
Dozens of people gathered on the beach to celebrate the beginning of the journey back to summer.
The party featured a conversation with astronomer Eric Norland, a sky lantern launch, bonfire, fireworks and hot chocolate.
