Man in Wheelchair Dies after Being Struck by Train in Minneapolis

A man in an electric wheelchair died after being struck by a light-trail rain in south Minneapolis.

According to the Star Tribune,  Metro Transit Officers responded to the accident around 6 p.m. Sunday night.

The man was not alone when he crossed the tracks.

He was taken to a local hospital, where he died three hours later of his injuries.

Metro Transit spokespeople say all warning devices were operating at the time of the accident.

They say an investigation will look into whether the man’s wheelchair played a role in his inability to cross the tracks.

The Blue Line station is located near seven group homes for individuals with disabilities.
