Sheboygan Co. Sheriff Defends Hiring Convicted Killer

The Sheboygan County Sheriff is defending his decision to hire a man convicted of killing and dismembering his girlfriend nearly 40 years ago.

Sheriff Todd Priebe says Rafael Macias is very grateful that he’s been given a second chance.

Priebe says Macias had been working as a contractor on the sheriff’s department radio system for about ten years before being hired in 2011.

The sheriff says Macias was upfront about his conviction.

Macias was 20 years old and an airman at Carswell Air Force Base in Texas when he pleaded guilty to killing and dismembering Julia Adams.

He told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Wednesday that through his faith, anger management counseling and maturity, he has become a different man.

Sheriff Priebe says Macias is a rehabilitation success story.
