Ironwood, Superior and Virginia Kmart Stores to Close in April

Kmart stores in Ironwood, Superior and Virginia will close in mid-April.

Sears Holdings Corporation announced the closures Tuesday.

The Ironwood store employs 47 people, Virginia has 48 employees, and Superior has 42.

The company says eligible employees will receive severance and have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Sears or Kmart stores.

The stores will begin liquidation sales on January 24.

Customers who have layaway contracts at any of the stores can either pay off the contract early or transfer their layaway contract to a neighboring store or online.

Meanwhile, the company says the Kmart stores in International Falls and West Duluth will remain open.

The Kmart closure in Superior comes on the heels of Target announcing they are shutting the doors to their Superior store as well.

The Superior Target will close on January 30.
