Gov. Walker Rolls Out Affordable Education Package at UWS

Legislative Package Would Help Former, Current Students

Governor Scott Walker has been touring the state and stopping at several campuses to announce a series of steps that will make higher education more affordable for Wisconsin families and students.

The “college affordability” proposal is multi–faceted and includes allowing deduction of student loan interest, increasing internships and helping students and their families make informed decisions.

The overall goal of the package is a simple one, which he explained at UWS Tuesday.

“Providing assistance, keep the cost reasonable in particular to help students in need. whether they’re in our four year or two year campuses is going to be incredibly important,” Walker said.

People could see effects of this package in as few as a couple months.

The legislation will also include items that haven’t been shown to the public yet but are tied to higher education.
