$50,000 in Damages to Duluth Multi-modal Center
An 18-year-old man is behind bars after allegedly vandalizing the Duluth Transit Authority’s new multi-modal Center, leaving around $50,000 in damages.
The incident happened after 9 p.m. Saturday night.
Police say a water main break alerted them to the incident.
Authorities say a man used a construction mallet to break computers, outlets, an elevator door and panel, and drywall among other things.
The Duluth Transit Authority turned over surveillance footage to authorities. The man allegedly tried to destroy security cameras, but missed one, which captured the incident.
Police say the man was allegedly involved in several car prowling incidents in the parking ramp. Authorities recovered items in the ramp that were stolen from vehicles.
According to the DTA, damages are estimated around $50,000.
The DTA is still planning to hold a grand opening celebration for the multi-modal center on February 4.
