Superior Murder Trial Underway
The murder trial is underway for one of five suspects charged in connection to the shooting death of 20-year-old Garth Velin in Superior.
The trial for 21-year-old Kyham Dunn is expected to wrap up on Friday in Douglas County.
Dunn faces party to the crime of felony murder charges for Velin’s death.
He is one of five suspects charged after Velin was shot in the chest during what police say was a failed robbery attempt at his home.
Dunn was originally scheduled to go to trial last May, however, Douglas County District Attorney Dan Blank said he needed more time to build a case against him.
Co-defendant Chance Andrews, who admitted to shooting Velin, pleaded guilty to felony murder and was sentenced to 25 years behind bars.
Last June, a jury found 21-year-old Kane Robinson guilty of party to the crime of felony murder. Robinson was sentenced to 18 years in prison.
Co-defendant Teah Phillips is expected to go to trial on February 23.
Dallas Robinson is scheduled to go to trial in March, however, Douglas County District Attorney Dan Blank says a plea agreement is in the works with Robinson.
Robinson has agreed to testify against Dunn and Phillips. He refused to testify against his brother, Kane Robinson. In return for his testimony, Robinson’s party to the crime of Felony Murder charge would be reduced to Party to the Crime of Attempted Armed Robbery.
