Farnsworth announces Bid for House District 6A Seat
A second candidate has tossed their hat into the ring for the House District 6A seat left vacant by Representative Carly Melin.
Republican Rob Farnsworth announced his candidacy Friday.
Farnsworth is a special education teacher with the Hibbing School District and a real estate agent with Village Realty.
He has been a union member for 17 years and served as the local union president while teaching for the Department of Corrections.
Farnsworth says he wants to work to change high taxes and the over-regulation of the mining industry, which he says has contributed to it’s decline on the Iron Range.
He will host a campaign kick-off at JJ’s Coffee and Cream in Hibbing on Friday, February 5 from 6 to 7:00 p.m.
Democratic candidate Julie Sandstede announced her intentions to run for the same seat on Thursday.
Sandstede is a teacher for the Virginia School District. She says the House needs someone who understands the downturn in mining.
