Madeline Island Ferry Still Chuggin’ This Winter

Even though it may be the end of January in Bayfield, the Madeline Island Ferry has not stopped and docked for the season.

That’s because, the ice is still too thin and chunks to stop from getting cars back and forth from the island.

But this easy transportation late in the season is not a good thing for business right now.

“Because we don’t have the sea caves, which is a substantial amount of business for here. It’s hard on the ferry line, said Sean Heckman, Chief Engineer of the Madeline Island Ferry Line.

Officials urge travelers to call ahead to make sure the ferry is still operating before a visit is planned.
