Work Begins on Aerial Lift Bridge

Replacement of Lift Bridge Ropes Begins, Will Cause Traffic Delays

The City of Duluth is reminding the public about the project currently underway to replace the wire ropes that raise and lower the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge.

The project started Monday and will continue through the end of the month.

The City of Duluth has contracted with Lakehead Constructors to perform the work Mondays through Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

To facilitate the work, the Lift Bridge is restricted to one-lane with signal controls directing vehicular traffic going in and out of Park Point during the project period.

Traffic signals have been placed at each end of the Lift Bridge to keep traffic flowing through the single lane.

The lane closure will shift between each side of the Bridge and appropriate traffic control signs and barricades will be in place to alert drivers.

Periodic short term (15 minute or less) traffic closures will also occur when materials need to be lifted over the roadway or loaded in and out of the work area.

The City thanks the public and requests that motorists build in additional travel time to reach their destination.
