UMD Girl’s Track and Cross Country Team Hosts Blood Drive

Athletes Work to Recruit Donors

The Women’s Track and Cross Country team for The University of Minnesota Duluth hosted a blood drive Monday, where they volunteered their time to recruit blood donors.

“It’s wonderful to have the young adults show their leadership and to give to their community, back, what’s needed,” said Amy Kranig, a donor recruitment territory manager of the Red Cross.

Only about 10 percent of people who are eligible to donate blood do, and the main reason for the low number is because they are never asked to, according to the Red Cross.

Kranig said that the severe winter weather in the Northeast has created a greater need for blood donations.
