Man Sentenced for Itasca Co. Standoff

Man Gets Sentence for 8 Hour Standoff

The suspect in an eight hour standoff in Itasca County that ended after a S.W.A.T team used chemical agents to force him out has been sentenced.

Fifty-seven year old Robert Schwirtz pleaded guilty to second degree assault.

He will have to serve 10 years of supervised probation and spend 314 days in the Itasca County jail.

If he fails to complete his probation he’ll have to spend three years in prison instead.

Last June authorities tried to make contact with him after an assault and he refused to come out of his Wabana Township home.

Authorities also seized several loaded firearms and several thousand rounds of ammunition along with some drugs from the scene.
