State Experience Helps Mirage

Many Proctor-Hermantown Players were on 2014 State Team

Girls hockey playoffs in Minnesota wrap up this week as the MSHSL State Tournament starts Wednesday with Class A quarterfinals.  For the second time in three years, Proctor-Hermantown is the Sec. 7 champ.

The Mirage clinched their berth with a section final win over Hibbing-Chisholm last week.

The girls had their last practice of the season at Hermantown Arena Tuesday afternoon, before bussing down to St. Paul.

Many Mirage players were on the team that went to State in 2014. For them, the experience of skating at the Xcel Energy Center has been extremely valuable.

“Everyone has the drive to win this year,” said senior defenseman Brielle Larson.  That first game against New Prague, they’re #5 seed, we’re #4.  It should be a really good game.”

“Our captains have been great,” said junior forward Callie Hoff, who was not with the Mirage in 2014.  “They’re the four seniors and they’ve done everything they could for us to help us get calmed down.  They really helped in the section final to be calm and know anything can happen.”

Face-off between the Mirage and New Prague is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
