UMD To Offer New Majors For Fall Semester

Journalism and Mechanical Engineering Get a Boost

Students at UMD will prepare to consider two new majors when the fall semester comes around.

The School of Science and Engineering will offer a Masters’ Degree in mechanical engineering.

They’re hoping to have a class of eight graduate students this fall in a program that currently serve a few hundred undergraduate students.

Grad students are expected to attend advanced classes, but also complete targeted research projects for the university.

“I’m very excited, because it’s something that we’ve looked forward to having for more than five years now,” said Assistant Professor Dr. Emmanuel Enemuoh.

Dr. Enemuoh says engineering firms are recruiting professionals with research experience, and a new graduate program would allow future students to be competitive for those positions.

“We hope to do more research because with the graduate students the professors can now do more than they are currently doing,” he said.

The College of Liberal Arts will formally begin a journalism major this fall as well.

The journalism major will prepare students for careers across all forms of media.
