Report: Permit To Carry Applications Increased in 2015

A new report issued by the Department of Public Safety Bureau of Criminal Apprehension shows an increase in Permit to Carry applications in 2015. 

According to the report, 47,827 permits were applied for last year.  Of those, 44,696 permits were issued, up from 41,493 in 2014. 

Hennepin, Anoka, Dakota, Ramsey and Washington Counties issued the most permits last year. 

Sheriffs reported there were 14 permits suspended, five revoked and 736 denied in 2015. 

Minnesota law enforcement agencies reported that individuals with permits committed 1,238 crimes in 2015.  Nearly 75 percent were DWI’s or other traffic offenses. 

As of today, the total number of valid permits in Minnesota is 217,909.
