Bulldogs Head to Frozen Faceoff with Confidence
UMD Faces North Dakota Friday in NCHC Semifinals
There are still a couple of ways for UMD to wrap up a spot in the NCAA Division I Men’s Hockey tournament.
The first, win the NCHC Frozen Faceoff and claim the automatic berth that comes with winning the conference playoff championship. The other, go 1–1 and sweat out the rest Championship Saturday and maybe Selection Sunday on the bubble.
After an up and down season, the Bulldogs have won six in a row and head to Minneapolis with lots of momentum. Scott Sandelin’s team has also been scoring goals of late, which he says has given the Bulldogs plenty of confidence.
“We’re shooting the puck more,” said Sandelin. “We’talked about it all year, try to get the puck to the net. Miami was a team that pressures extremely hard so I’m pleased we scored three power play goals against them. North Dakota will pressure at certain points, but not like Miami.”
UMD and North Dakota are the first semifinal at the Target Center on Friday. Puck drop set for about 4:38 pm, with Saint cloud St. and Denver to follow. The winners meet Saturday evening for the NCHC Championship, the losers early for third place.
