City Passes ‘Water Flowage’ Fee Increase

Average Family Will Pay $1.20 More Per Month

If you live in Duluth and use a lot of water, you’ll be seeing an increase in your bill starting in May.

Tuesday night, the Public Utilities Commission approved a monthly “modest increase” of $1.20 for an average family.

“With our city policy, water main breaks have been — on average — decreasing over the last several years — over the last 10 years or so, and this will help our continued downward trend of water main breaks,” Filipovich explained.

The majority of Duluth’s water budget will be going to help fund reconstruction projects on Superior and 4th Streets.

So, the increased flowage fee will be used, according to Filipovich, for water main maintenance and breaks throughout the city.
