Man Held on No Bail after Itasca County Drug Bust

A 28-year-old Bemidji man is being held behind bars without bail after a drug bust in Itasca County.

Nicholas Blackbear has been charged with one count of Conspiracy to Commit Controlled Substance Crime in the First Degree.

Blackbear, 30-year-old Dwayne Jones Jr., of Detroit, and 20-year-old Joshua Hunter, of Grand Rapids, were arrested on March 14 after police stopped their vehicle and found around 130 grams of heroin in the trunk.

The arrest was the result of a months-long drug investigation by the Minnesota BCA, Itasca County Sheriff’s Office and the Grand Rapids Police Department.

The judge ordered Blackbear to be held without bail on the new charges and an alleged probation violation.

Bail for Hunter was set at $100,000 without conditions, or $50,000 with conditions.

Bail was set for Jones at $500,000 without conditions, or $250,000 with conditions.
