Superior Street Reconstruction

The City of Duluth is moving forward with plans to reconstruct one of its most highly traveled streets.

The City of Duluth is moving forward with plans to reconstruct one of its most highly traveled streets.

At a meeting Friday, officials discussed how the city intends to line the sanitary sewer pipes this summer in preparation for Superior Street’s reconstruction.

This project will cause a 24 hour interruption to all businesses on Superior Street.

“For a very large business you cannot go, we will come to the business and look for a way to pump waste water out of the basement, or we will dig a hole in front of the business and pump waste water out of there,” said Eric Shaffer, Chief Engineer of Utilities for the City of Duluth.

Most of the meeting was a question and answer session, to try and find a good date to begin the project.

“My point of view we want to do it during a drought, so then there are no delays.” Shaffer said.

The project will begin mid–September and end by early October.
