Driver Held in Fatal Itasca County Rollover

The driver of a car is behind bars after a rollover crash that killed a passenger in Itasca County last week. 

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a truck was traveling Southbound on Highway 65 near Goodland, when it left the road and rolled into the ditch. 

One person was ejected from the car and pronounced dead on scene. 

The victim has been identified as 56-year-old Mark Wirtjes, of Bovey. 

According to the Star Tribune, authorities suspect the driver was drunk.  The 29-year-old man from Bemidji is being held in the Itasca County Jail, pending charges. 

Another passenger in the car was also injured.
