City Officials want you to utilize sand collection sites

The city of Duluth invites residents to dispose of excess sand or salt from sidewalks at one of their road sand collection sites set up around the city.

Street sweepers collect road sand as quickly as possible but any additional cleanup help is always appreciated.  If not picked up, the sand washes into Duluth streams and can be damaging to the environment.

Chris Kleist, Program Coordinator, said “We have 16 trout streams in the city and all of our storm water flows to a stream or Lake Superior so protecting that is all of our responsibility.”

You can dump off your sand at Chester Bowl, Duluth Heights Community Club, Piedmont Community Center or Wheeler Field.
