Local Boxers Ready for Friday Night Fights
Markus Morris, Ryan Watson, R.J. Laase All on Card
The next edition of Friday Night Fights in Hinckley are just a few days away. A chance for fight fans to see a trio of local talent.
In addition to R.J. ‘T-Rex’ Laase, two other Duluth natives are scheduled to fight.
Markus ‘Hooch’ Morris fights Mike Fowler. Morris hasn’t fought since stopping Patrick Cape last August. But according to Morris, the eight month layoff has only given him more time to prepare.
“I’ve been training, road work, probably the most road work I’ve put in training camp,” said Morris, who has a pro record of 7-2 (4 K.O.). “All the rounds I’ve put in sparring, I’m real confident heading in to this fight.”
Also, Ryan Watson is set for his second professional bout. Watson, the former Golden Gloves regional champion, faces B.J. Lacy.
Watson won his pro debut with a 2nd round TKO in January. He says he’s learned plenty from that first bout and is ready to build off the win.
“The first time I hit him I saw his eyes roll back and I just kind of hopped on him and tried to get him out of there real quick,” said Watson of his debut. “I know if I would have taken my time, relaxed a little bit, I could have gotten out of there a little earlier. Now I’m just going to go in there, pick my shots, not get too excited.”
