More Repairs To Come To The Blatnik Bridge

The Blatnik Bridge, has been joining Duluth and Superior since way back in 1961.The bridge has had millions of dollars worth of repairs done but a recent inspection found 23 different steel plates which connect parts of the bridge now need to be fixed or replaced.

“The main problem that we are addressing with this project is what’s called gusset plates and those are reinforcement plates,” District Bridge Engineer, Kevin Rohling said.

The Blatnik Project will  include repairing or replacing a floor beam, fixing several bolt and adding new navigation lights.

Bridge construction should start in mid-august and wrap up by late October. The total price tag will be around 2. 8 million dollars. Access to the bridge will be limited during this time. The construction plan is to close three of the four lanes so many drivers will need to use the Bong Bridge instead to get between Duluth and Superior.
