It’s Record Store Day Across the World

Around 1400 Stores Across US Celebrate

Store owners, staff, customers, and artists are honoring the special role independently owned music shops play in the community.

Record Store day was started in 2008 by store owners and employees as a way to spread the word about record store culture, and today, around 1400 stores across the nation and world recognize the day.

The Electric Fetus opened its doors to hundreds of customers who were excited to flip through exclusive CD and vinyl releases.

The event was supported by local businesses like Duluth Coffee, Bent Paddle, and the Bakehouse, who provided food, drinks, and giveaways, while Local artists, like Big Wave Dave and the Ripples, entertained the crowd with an instore performance.

For the stores, the day also promotes supporting smaller businesses, a cause that music lovers stand behind, but it’s the music, that unites them.

In 2015, 60% of the record store day official release list came from independent labels and distributors.
