Local Fighters Shine at Friday Night Fights
Markus Morris, Ryan Watson Earn Impressive Wins
Friday night was a good night for fighting. Especially for local boxers Markus ‘Hooch’ Morris and Ryan Watson, who were part of the Grand Friday Night card at Grand Casino Hinckley.
Morris won an six round unanimous decision over Mike Fowler to imrove his pro record to 8-2.
Morris may not have been able to score his fifth pro knockout, even though he hurt Fowler more than once, nut the ‘Hope of the Hillside’ knew if he stuck to his plan, he’d get the win.
“It wasn’t frustrating, I kept my composure, made sure I came in and got the ‘W’,” said Morris. “I train hard for every fight, but this one I put in extra miles, trained extra hard in the gym and I got the job done.”
Earlier on the card, Watson made it two knockouts in two pro fights, stopping B.J. Lacy in the second round.
Watson looked impressive, even though was sick in the week leading up to the fight. He may not have been at 100%, but Watson was more tha good enough to stay unbeaten.
“I came in today about 80–85% and got the job done,” said Watson. “I felt a lot more relaxed than i was in the first fight. I got to sit down on my punches, stay relaxed. It felt really good.”
