Wicked Winds Snap Trees, Topple Power Poles

No Injuries Reported

Wicked winds, rain and one soggy ground whipped up a perfect storm Monday for falling trees – and it had nothing to do with severe thunderstorms.

26th Avenue East and Alexander Street – by Black Woods – was particularly hit hard.

A huge tree toppled over onto some power lines, which then snapped one power pole and took down another.

“I was casually coming out to check out the situation and see that my tree has been downed. Thank the lord, though, it did not hit the house; it was going in the opposite direction,” said Karen Green, a 15-year resident whose tree fell onto the power lines.

Minnesota Power, Duluth police officers and firefighters all responded to the scene.

There were no reports of injuries at the scene.
