UMD Softball Lands Six on All-NSIC Team

Bulldogs Ashley Lewis and Natalie Wright Earn 1st Team Honors

University of Minnesota Duluth Softball had a fantastic first season under head coach Jen Walter.  The Bulldogs went 21–7, finishing second in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, and are in position to make the NCAA Tournament.

Six Bulldogs have also earned all conference honors, including first teamers Ashley Lewis and Natalie Wright.

Lewis, a senior Utility Player, is hitting .312 this season with a .459 slugging percentage.  While Wright, a junior 2nd Baseman, leads UMD in  batting average (.374), hits (59), doub;es (13), on-base percentage (.421), total bases (90), runs batted in (41) and slugging percentage (.581).

Four more Bulldogs made the second team, including outfielders Ashley Schilling and Grand Rapids native Hannah Schmoll; shortstop Becky Smith; and pitcher Sam Hartmann, who was also named to the conference Gold Glove team.

The Bulldogs are the No. 2 seed in this week’s NSIC Tournament, starting Thursday in Sioux Falls, S.D.
