New weigh station in Douglas County is expected to open soon

There is a new $13.5 million weigh station facility on highway two and 53 in Douglas County.

The building was needed because the old one hadn’t been renovated since 1969.

The facility will have double the amount of inspection bays that are both more than 100 feet long, it will have below ground walkways and 270 degree vision in the operation rooms.  It will also be used as a public rest area.

The building is just over 10,000 square feet.

Brendan Dirkes, Project Manager, said “This is considered a port of entry route. We get a lot of truck traffic out of Canada coming through here, a lot of traffic overall. There’s roughly 20,000 vehicles per day passing through this area.”

Construction workers started the project last spring and hope to have it done by the end of the month.
