Northlanders celebrate Cinco de Mayo

Today marks the 154th anniversary of Cinco de Mayo, a bi–cultural celebration that commemorates the triumph of a small Mexican army over French forces in the 1862 Battle of Puebla.

The battle took place only 14 years after the United States defeated Mexico in the Mexican–American war.

To celebrate the holiday’s history, many people go out to eat good Mexican food and this is great for local businesses.

Jen Christianson, Server at Guadalajara, said “We see double, triple, quadruple the amount on Cinco de Mayo from the second we open the door until we close.”

Many local restaurants are offering deals and specials for the holiday.
