Skibo Fire 21 Percent Contained

Authorities say the Skibo fire that began on Friday is now 21 percent contained.

The blaze began just north of St. Louis County Highway 110, two miles east of Hoyt Lakes and has burned an estimated 1,000 acres.

Fire crews say reduced wind on Sunday helped air navigation and a Chinook helicopter is making continuous bucket drops on ‘hot spots’.

Crews patrolling the fire perimeter overnight saw less smoke, indicating successful suppression efforts.

As of Monday, crews are continuing mop up and gridding to establish a firm perimeter and strengthen containment lines up to 100 feet toward the center of the fire.

Structure protection continues as a priority and several families remain under evacuation.

There are 142 people from 12 states working to put out the blaze.
