Skibo Fire 83 Percent Contained
The wait to go home is now over for many families who were evacuated as wildfires burned near Hoyt Lakes.
According to the Minnesota Incident Command System, the fire has been 83 percent contained, up from 57 percent on Tuesday.
The evacuation order will be lifted Thursday morning.
Fire crews expect the fire to be calmer Wednesday with reduced winds and higher relative humidity, along with rain in the late afternoon.
The perimeter of the fire is 21.4 miles long. Crews are continuing to patrol, strengthen and mop up fire lines 100 feet inward from the fire edge to ensure there are no hot spots.
Rehabilitation of the fire line is on-going.
An infra-red flight will be flown in Wednesday morning to detect hot spots.
Structure protection efforts are being continued.
There are currently 185 firefighters from 12 states working to extinguish the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
