Police: Suspect Admitted to Pine City Sexual Assault

A 28-year-old man is behind bars in Pine County pending charges after an alleged sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl on Tuesday.

Authorities arrested the Wyoming, Minnesota man on Wednesday.

The Pine County Sheriff’s Office says the assault took place at Robinson Park in Pine City around 9 p.m. Tuesday.

The teen told police she was on the playground when the man approached her and asked her numerous times to get in the car with him.

When she refused, he forcibly removed her pants and sexually assaulted her.  While the assault was happening, the teen said a person in the area yelled to them and the suspect told her to be quiet.  The man then got in his car and drove off.

Investigators identified the man after re-interviewing the victim.  She told police that she and the suspect were Facebook friends, and had never met in person and did not arrange to meet in person that day.

When the suspect met with investigators, he allegedly admitted that he came to Pine City to meet the victim.  He also allegedly admitted to sexually assaulting her, even telling police that she tried to fight him off and yell for help.

The suspect has a prior conviction of Fifth Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct out of Anoka County from January of 2016.  He remains behind bars in Pine County and is expected to be charged on Friday.
