Skibo Fire 93 Percent Contained

After nearly a week, families can now return home after being evacuated as wildfires burned near Hoyt Lakes. 

The evacuation order was lifted as of 8 a.m. Thursday morning.  Roads that were closed are now reopened. 

The fire is 93 percent contained. 

Fire crews will be working to continue to patrol, strengthen and mop up the 21 miles of fire lines. 

The blaze started around 2:30 in the afternoon on Friday, May 6 and burned an estimated 973 acres. 

There are currently 183 firefighters working on putting out the fire. 

Firefighters are warning the public that trees have been damaged and dead branches can fall and to use caution.  Public and firefighter safety continues to be the priority.
