Fatal Accident on Highway 63

Vehicle drives around a barricade of a washed out section of Hwy 63 near Grand View

On July 18, 2016 at around 9:30 A.M, a 911 call was received by the Bayfield County Communications center, from a WisDOT official, who was assessing damage to the washout on Highway 63 just north of Grand View, reporting a vehicle crash.

It was reported that a car drove around the road closed barricade on Highway 63 at Raymond Avenue in Grand View and another about a half mile closer to the washout.

The vehicle proceeded north on 63 and drove into the washed out portion of the road, which is approximately 50 feet down.

Responders extricated the victim out of her vehicle and was brought to the surface using Rope Rescue equipment. She was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth by Life Link, where she died from her injuries.

The vicitm was 74-year-old Kathryn Anderson of the Cable/Namakagon area.
