Missing Barnes Girl Found

Missing 14 Year-Old Found

On Tuesday, June 28th, 2016, at around 10 p.m., the Bayfield County Communication Center was notified of a missing 14 year old female, who had left her Barnes home earlier in the day on an ATV and had not returned home.

The Bayfield County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Sawyer County Search and Rescue Team, Barnes Fire, and Barnes EMS personnel conducted a search for her in the Barnes area.

On Wednesday morning around 4:00 a.m., deputies of Bayfield County discovered the missing person on an unmarked logging road approximately two miles from her home.

It was apparent that she had died of her injuries, which were consistent with an ATV rollover. She had been wearing a helmet, but it appeared that she lost control on a curve that had standing water from previous rains.

The investigation is still on-going and her name is being withheld at this time to give her family time to notify relatives.
