Special Prosecutor Brought in to Assist in Castile Case

The attorney won't be leading the case

A special prosecutor will be brought in to assist in the Philando Castile Investigation.

Ramsey County Attorney John Choi said Friday that he will uphold the law and intends to do so during the investigation of the July 6 death of Castile, as he was elected to do.

He will be incorporating this new special prosecutor to enhance trust in the results of the case, and remain the lead investigator on the case.

U.S. Department of Justice Attorney, Don Lewis, will be stepping into the role of special prosecutor.

Together they will decide if charges should be brought against the police officer who fatally shot Castile, 32, during a routine traffic stop.

The incident has brought on nationwide attention after Castile’s girlfriend broadcast the incident live on Facebook.
